College credit & credentials

Opportunities to earn college credit and nationally recognized certifications mean graduates are ready to continue their education or launch careers.

Visit & Tour

Eighth-graders from Lehigh County’s nine public school districts are invited each year to visit Lehigh Career & Technical Institute and tour labs in its five areas of study: Arts & Humanities, Business & Communication Technology, Engineering, Health & Human Services and Industrial Technology. Tour dates vary and depend on which middle school students attend. Tours also are available for ninth-graders who’ve expressed interest in LCTI’s programs.

Camp LCTI, LCTI’s annual summer camp, is another opportunity for students in grades five through eight to visit the school and explore its myriad labs. Prospective students and their parents are also encouraged to attend our fall open house.

Individual visits may be arranged during the school year, too. Please contact Martha Figueroa to schedule a tour. She can be reached at 610-799-1367 or figueroam@lcti.org.

Career & Technical Education

At Lehigh Career & Technical Institute, students learn by doing.

Teachers guide students from instruction to action, helping them tackle projects that mirror on-the-job challenges as they develop the knowledge and skill necessary to secure industry credentials, earn college credit or both. For example, marketing students manage a store on their way to earning National Retail Federation certification. LCTI’s programs fall into five areas of study:

Students may choose to attend LCTI for a half or full day. Half-day students spend their mornings or afternoons at LCTI and the remainder of the day taking academic courses at their sending high schools. Full-day students take both their technical and academic courses at LCTI. View the essential skill alignment chart for each of our programs, as well as our program applications.

Academic Center

Students in grades 9-12 may choose to attend Lehigh Career & Technical Institute for a full day. Full-day students take their academic courses — English, math, science, social studies and physical education — in the Academic Center.

Like the offerings at students’ sending high schools, Academic Center courses are rigorous and designed to prepare students for future success in the classroom and beyond. Some full-day students are eligible for dual enrollment and earn college credit while meeting graduation requirements by taking classes at nearby Lehigh Carbon Community College. Learn more about the Academic Center.

Student Organizations

Career & Technical Student Organizations are a key component in strong career and technical education programs. Lehigh Career & Technical Institute is home to the following CTSOs:

  • DECA
  • Future Business Leaders of America
  • Family, Career and Community Leaders of America
  • National FFA Organization
  • HOSA – Future Health Professionals
  • National Technical Honor Society
  • SkillsUSA

These service-based organizations’ offerings complement CTE coursework, extending learning beyond the classroom with innovative programs and community partnerships. All LCTI students are eligible for membership in CTSOs and those who join them benefit from leadership training, community service, skills competition, professional development and much more. Internships & Co-ops

Job shadows, internships and co-ops provide Lehigh Career & Technical Institute students with opportunities to test their skills in the real world and get a sense of what work life is like. The programs help students gain resume-building experience and deepen the Lehigh Valley’s labor pool.

During job shadows, students spend part of a typical day with a professional in their chosen field of study and learn about the different aspects of a job, as well as what’s required to get it done. Internships are an option for 10th- and 11th-graders, who are matched with local businesses that provide unpaid positions for students.

Job shadows and internships ready seniors for the co-op (cooperative education) program. LCTI’s co-op partners offer paid positions to students and pair them with mentors who provide on-the-job training in preparation for end-of-program performance evaluations. The companies that hire students include Acme Cryogenics, Air Products, Allen Organ Company, East Penn Manufacturing, Lehigh Valley Health Network, Lutron Electronics Inc., Mack Trucks, JCPenney, Ransome Cat, Remco Inc., Scott Chevrolet, Solar Technology and many others.
